As a naturopath focused on personalised holistic health, I am a strong advocate for personalised health, nutrition and supplement protocols for everyone. This is especially important when one has symptoms and health challenges to resolve and overcome.
However, sometimes clients or friends are on the look out for high quality natural supplements to help them to maintain a good state of health after a period of consulting with me or otherwise. If that is where you are right now, this article is for you!
Why Supplement in the First Place?
You might be wondering why, as a naturopath, I even recommend supplements in the first place. While I would love everyone to get all they need from food, natural light, water and lifestyle, the sad reality is that the Earth is not what is used to be. The soils are polluted and devoid of nutrients in many places, and the same for the water we drink. As a result, it’s very difficult to get everything we need to optimise our health from foods alone.
However, my favourite supplements are always natural, clean and as close to nature intended as possible.
Let’s get into the list. I’ll break down my top 5 favourite natural supplements for people looking to maintain and optimise their health. Remember, these supplements may not be suitable for everyone. Please do your research or consult with your health care provider before starting anything new.
My Top 5 Natural Supplements
#5: Mt. Capra Mineral Whey
Mineral Whey is an all-natural powdered mineral/electrolyte supplement sourced from grass-fed goat milk whey. Prepared on a small family-run farm at low temperatures, Mineral Whey contains an impressive combination of naturally occurring macro and trace minerals in a bio-organic form that is easily assimilated by our digestive system. Most impressive for me is the high potassium and calcium content, but this may not be suitable for everyone’s needs, so best to check your mineral profile before consuming this one all the time.
#4: Rosita Extra Virgin Cod Liver Oil
Cod liver oil has been used for a very long time to provide us with a concentrated form of essential fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins A & D which are often deficient in our diets. Particularly useful in the colder and darker months cod liver oil is a must in most people’s supplement cabinet. However, the vast majority of cod liver oil these days is produced in a way that either leads to toxic rancid oils, the loss of the naturally occurring vitamins or the addition of synthetic alternatives.
Rosita EVCLO is the only brand of cod liver oil which I recommend to my clients, take myself and give to my family. Due to its unique, traditional extraction process that does not use heat or chemicals, the naturally occurring vitamins and oils are preserved and present in the ideal ratios. Cod liver oil has been used for a very long time for good reason – it’s a perfect supplement to take year round and especially in the colder months to support health in a multitude of ways.
From Rosita: “Handcrafted in small batches from wild cod (Gadus morhua), Rosita’s cod liver oil is carefully extracted using a method that avoids the use of heat, chemicals or mechanical processes. This ensures the oils retain the exceptionally rich nutrient profile, and that the delicate fatty acids and naturally occurring vitamins remain intact.”
#3: Whole Earth & Sea Deep Ocean Minerals

An excellent product that I add to my filtered or distilled water, Deep Ocean Minerals is a rich source of a wide range of trace minerals and significant amounts of magnesium, iodine and boron, often deficient in our diets. Other minerals include: calcium, sodium, potassium, barium, chromium, copper, iron, lanthanum, lithium, manganese, phosphorus, rubidium, selenium, silicon, silver, strontium, sulfur, thorium, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, yttrium, and zinc. If you’ve ever felt better while spending time by/in the sea, give this product a try.
Good alternatives I am aware of include Quinton’s Hypertonic, TJ Clark’s Legendary Colloidal Minerals and various fulvic/humic blends. Look for the highest quality and most important, purity!
#2: Herbal Bitters
Bitters are a brilliant all-round natural support for digestion, liver and gall bladder health and even the immune system. They’ve been made for a very long time and with various recipes. You can easily make them at home for yourself!
My favourite bitters include:
- Greater Swedish Bitters by Golden Age Remedies – This is the closest to the legendary Paracelsus’ original recipe popularised by the Austrian Herbalist Maria Treben. Unfortunately not all of the herbs in the original recipe are known or available, but these bitters contain 22 herbs for a wide range of health benefits.
- While the above is made in Maria Treben’s recommended rye vodka, I am also partial to versions made with wine for a different taste. The wine can also help to relax the nervous system which also boost digestive juices!
#1: BioSuperfood
BioSuperfood is my number one favourite all-rounder natural supplement for good reason. I always prefer supplements in their original food-state, as nature intended. However there’s no reason that we can’t utilise modern technology to optimise the growth and nutrient availability of our natural food. There’s no better example of this than BioSuperfood.
BioSuperfood was developed after 13 years of intensive research on algae, led by holistic nutritional pioneer, Prof. Dr. Michael Kiriac, PhD, ND. These blends have been tested, proven, and used in agricultural and human applications for over 30 years. BioSuperfood’s practical applications range over two decades of nutritional support for hundreds of children and adults of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and for thousands of people in their struggle with common or difficult health conditions.
BioSuperfood Bio-Algae Concentrates (BAC) are a complete, balanced and synergistic whole food composed of four different types of micro-algae. BAC has a completeness, balance and synergy that is not possible in any single algae or other food supplement. It is not a laboratory produced man-made isolate, it is not a separate or manufactured supplement. BAC is a food the way nature made it. BAC is a complete, balanced and synergistic whole food nutritional composed of microalgae based ingredients. Its thousands of nutrients occur in their natural form that your body can recognise.
